Getting started
Do I need technical skills?
Hardly any. A double-click installs quittum; on the first launch it fetches Ollama and the AI model (about 3 GB) into its own data folder, without installing anything on your system. Then you pick the folder with your receipts, that's it. If you can use a photo app, you can use this too.
Mac or Windows?
Both: macOS 13 or newer with Apple Silicon (M1 or newer), Windows 10 and 11. 8 GB of memory is enough, around 10 GB of disk space for the program and the AI model. Your phone uses quittum as a browser app on the home network, with no app store and no installation.
Which files does quittum understand?
PDFs (scanned ones too), photos (JPG, PNG, HEIC), Office files (DOCX, XLSX) and bank statements as PDF or CSV. Everything stays in its original format; quittum puts readable text files with what it recognised next to them.
HEIC uses the system decoder. On Windows, the HEIF and HEVC extensions must be available.
Licence and purchase
How does the licence work?
After purchase you get a small file by e-mail and select it in quittum. Done. No activation, no unlocking needed, the file runs offline. Once a day a purchased quittum reports the licence identifier for the device counter. If the file gets lost, we send it again.
Do I need a subscription for updates?
No. Your purchased rights remain permanent. All updates released for your package are free. This is not a promise of unlimited new development or personal support.
How does the network work?
You introduce the devices to each other once, with a QR code. After that they sync whenever two of them are on the same network at the same time. When changes conflict, the newer one wins, and whatever was overwritten is listed in a report and can be restored.
Can I try it first?
There is no demo. You need a purchased licence for your own receipts. If you agree to immediate delivery and the legal requirements are met, your right of withdrawal expires when delivery begins. See the withdrawal notice for details.

Data and security
Does a receipt ever leave my computer?
No. Text recognition, language model and database run entirely on your computer. Two things go out, neither carrying receipt data: the question whether a new version exists, which can be switched off, and, with a purchased licence, the licence identifier once a day so the device count is right.
How do I back up my data?
You copy one folder, that's all. Receipts, text files with what was recognised, and the database sit side by side. quittum also makes daily backups of the database, if you want; the receipts are covered by your copy of the folder.
Are the invoices GoBD compliant?
quittum meets what the GoBD (the German rules for electronic records) require of software: issued invoices cannot be changed, corrections go through a cancellation, partial cancellation or credit note, numbers run in sequence and are logged, checksums reveal changes to files, quittum states the eight-year retention period and keeps the originals in the data folder, and an export provides the data for a tax audit. The GoBD, however, apply to your business as a whole: the procedure documentation (quittum gives you a template), backups and keeping the data folder remain with you. There is no official GoBD certificate for software.
Does quittum replace my accountant?
No, and it doesn't try to. quittum captures, sorts and double-checks; it gives no tax advice and makes no booking decisions. What it delivers is a cleanly sorted, complete pile. That is exactly what accountants miss most often.
